One end has a wood screw thread that bites into soft and hard timber, while the machine-thread end accepts a nut for joining fittings and fixtures. Drive the screw end into a pre-drilled hole using the star recess, then thread on a nut to complete the fixing. Commonly used for suspending fixtures, mounting brackets, fitting legs and general furniture assembly where a removable threaded stud is needed.
